Take Aim At Risk Best Practices for this Changing Healthcare Environment

Please join the Cooperative of American Physicians (CAP) for an updated, free, no-obligation CME program designed to help physicians reduce their chances of being named in a medical malpractice lawsuit and foster positive doctor-patient relationships.

The program objectives are:

• Discuss the issues most often seen in professional liability lawsuits.
• Identify medical conditions that are most prone to diagnostic error.
• Discuss the physician-patient relationship and the role the physician plays as a patient advocate.
• Discuss guidelines for informed consent.
• Identify systems that help prevent patient injury.
• Identify current and evolving risks in medicine.
• Formulate informed consent discussions that appropriately address culture and/or language barriers.

Anne Marie Lyddy is a senior risk management and patient safety specialist at the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. A Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management, Ms. Lyddy has extensive acute care experience in quality, patient safety, and risk management across the continuum of care. Prior to joining CAP, she worked as a risk management specialist at Medical Underwriters of California where she managed claims prevention processes for large physician groups.

Dona Constantine, RN, BS

Dona Constantine has served in a variety of positions throughout her career such as a Certified Emergency Nurse, Case Management Advisor both at St. Joseph Hospital, Orange California.  At Santa Ana Physician’s Group an Independent Physicians Association, she was responsible for credentialing/commercial health plan coordinating and then became the Quality Manager. She served as the Director of Health Projects for the Foundation for Independence in Nicotine Dependence, Loma Linda.  Serving as the Executive Director, NAMI Orange County offered her many opportunities to do public speaking.  Obtaining a Legal Assistantship Certificate from the University of California, Irvine has given her insight into her role as Risk Management and Patient Safety Representative.

CAP members receive medical liability protection from the Mutual Protection Trust (MPT). Since 2006, MPT has earned A.M. Best Company′s A+ (“superior”) rating, demonstrating MPT′s financial strength and its ability to meet ongoing coverage and contractual obligations.

The Mutual Protection Trust (MPT) is authorized under Section 1280.7 of the California Insurance Code as an unincorporated interindemnity arrangement among physician members of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP). Members do not pay insurance premiums. Instead, they pay tax-deductible assessments, based on risk classifications, for the amount necessary to pay claims and administrative costs. No assurance can be given as to the amount or frequency of assessments. Members also make a tax-deductible Initial Trust Deposit, which is refundable according to the terms of the MPT Agreement. ©2016
